How did you get started at Hirsch?
My connection with Hirsch began through a mutual friend named Ron. Ron and Bill Glockner, President/CEO of Hirsch Pipe & Supply, were business school buddies. Ron sold Pomona Valley Pipe to Bill, which eventually became our Pomona branch. Ron had other interests he wanted to pursue, so he decided to sell the business. Through Ron, Bill and I became close friends, and that's how my journey with Hirsch began. Bill eventually invited me to join the company, and I've been here ever since.
What has inspired you the most during your 18 years at Hirsch?
There are so many inspiring aspects of Hirsch. First and foremost, it's the people and the culture. We have a real sense of family within our organization. The commitment to our customers and employees is unwavering. I'm always amazed by the dedication our employees have towards each other. At Hirsch, it truly feels like everyone is rowing in the same direction and genuinely wants the best for each other. I also feel that Hirsch has my best interests at heart.
Additionally, Bill Glockner himself has been a significant source of inspiration for me. He's an incredibly positive and charismatic leader who motivates everyone to do their best. Bill understands the importance of making work enjoyable and genuinely cares about people.
What is a recent project you have worked on that will help our customers?
One of the projects I'm particularly proud of is our involvement in opening new stores. These expansions of the Hirsch Store network have allowed us to bring "Hirsch Has It" to more customers. They've also given our existing customers more choices when they travel around the Southland. It's all about making our services and products more accessible and convenient for our valued customers.
What makes Hirsch special compared to other plumbing distributors?
What sets Hirsch apart, in my opinion, comes down to our culture, people, and values. We prioritize a set of values that go beyond mere financial performance. When faced with challenging decisions, we often refer back to these values to guide us in determining how we should behave and what decisions are in alignment with our values. This commitment to a values-based culture is what truly anchors us and sets us apart from other companies that may not have the same level of dedication to their core values.
